Agra Travel
Agra, the city of the inimitable Taj Mahal is now an educational
and business centre-known for its craftsmen & handicrafts. Marble
and softstone inlay work, carpet and leather goods are some important
traditional crafts of the city.Agra, and the nearby city of Fatehpur
Sikri, are conveniently close to Delhi to warrant an all day excursion
by coach or taxi although there are several hotels of every standard
of comfort. Besides the Taj Mahal are Agra Fort, Sikandra, Ram Bagh
and Itmad-ud-Daulah. 35 km away are the imperial ruins of the Mughal
city, Fatehpur Sikri. Agra and Fatehpur Sikri are not merely rich
legacies of Mughal history – they are the finest examples of
architecture which combined Hindu and Muslim elements. |

- Air :Indian Airlines connects Agra to Delhi,
Khajuraho and Varanasi. Kheria Airport is 9 km from the city centre
and suitable transfers by taxis and auto rickshaws are available.
- Rail:Agra is connected by excellent train services
to Delhi. It is a major railway junction on the broad gauge routes
to the south, east and west. Two of the best trains of the Indian
Railways-the Shatabdi Express (Delhi-Agra-Bhopal) and the Taj
Express (Delhi-Agra-Gwalior) are the most convenient connections
from Delhi. In the tourist season from September to March the
fully air-conditioned luxury train, The palace on wheels,
stops at Agra on its return journey from jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer
and other places in Rajasthan.

| Apart from marble inlay work, Agra is famous for its leather goods.
Shoes, jackets, purses, footwear, briefcases, handbags in classical
and contemporary styles are even exported from here to Europe. Zardozi
embroidery and chikan wrok suits can be bought from Agra. Besides
precious jewellery, also available is semi-precious jewellery in ornate
mughal style. The main shopping areas of Agra are:Taj Mahal complex,
Kinari Bazar, Raja ki mandi, Mall Road and Sadar Bazar areas. For
those with a sweet tooth, the delicacies of Agra like pethas, gajak
and snacks like dalmot etc. are a great temptation. |
