Jaipur
In the early decades of 18th century, there arouse a brilliant star
on the Indian desert-Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh-II, who by sheer dint
of power and skill turned the dry and barren land into a blooming
flower. The city of Jaipur or the pink city as it is known by bears
a living testimony to his immense talent. The city is an outstanding
effort on part of the Rajput ruler in shifting his hillside capital
to a new site on the planes. Packed with many beautiful palaces, havelis
and forts, Jaipur was the first planned city of its time. Being the
capital of Rajasthan, the city also established a prominent place
in tourist itineraries as the third corner of India’s golden
triangle. |

| City of Jaipur has everything to make your visit a grand success,
be it the magical glow of the pink and orange buildings in the moonlit
night; the formidable forts encircling the city premise; camel-drawn
carts passing the nearby street and vibrantly attired natives with
glorious turbans.
The City Palace is a landmark palace that occupies a significant
place in the growth of the city. Stacked with a series of courtyards,
gardens and buildings with marble and mirror works, wall paintings,
silver doors and fountains, this grand Palace speaks valiant tales
of a great royal past.
The Hawa Mahal is if anything, it dominates one the foremost
pictorial presentations in tourist book. Conceived to provide adequate
vantage position to palace women for watching the passing royal
procession through the bazaar below, this architectural brilliance
contains over 900 niches with delicate stone-carved screens. The
entire structure is erected in the shape a majestic crown significant
to the one on Lord Krishna’s head.
Jantar Mantar is another remarkable tourist site in Jaipur.
It occupies an important position among the five great stone observatories
of Sawai Jai Singh. The scientifically designed instruments inside
the observatory reflect the high-point of Medieval Indian Astronomy.
The Govind Devji Temple, devoted to Lord Krishna is the most famous
and popular temple in the Pink City and attracts devotees from all
over the country and abroad. The Swargashuli/Isar Lat victory tower
is again an interesting site to see. It is the highest structure
that dominates the skyline of Jaipur City. Some of the other important
places worth visiting include the Ram Niwas Bagh, BM Birla Planetarium,
Galtaji, Jain Temple, Sisodia Rani Garden, Nahargarh, Jaigarh, and
the Old City.

| EXCURSIONS : |
| Just 12 km from the city lies Sanganer with beautiful Jain temple
and important craft industries besides the ruined palaces, city
walls and neglected Mughal garden. Bagru is another attractive site
situated 37 km to the southwest on Ajmer Road. The artificially
created Ramgarh lake 32-km northeast of Jaipur City forms a good
picnic spot for many visitors. Besides Abhaneri famous for 7th-8th
century temple of Harshad Mata, Bairath, Samod, Sambhar, and Jaisinghpura
Khor are some of the other important excursions worth visiting.

- Air :
Jaipur Airport, Sanganer is at a distance of around 11km from
the city center. Indian Airlines, Jet Airways and domestivc carriers
operate regular flighta to and from Jaipur. There are direct flights
to Delhi, Mumbai, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Aurangabad, and some other
cities from Jaipur.
- Rail :
The train service to Jaipur is available from all the major parts
of the country. An excellent connection from Delhi is Shatabadi
Express that provides a fast, air-conditioned rail service. Other
direct connections to Jaipur are from Bikaner, Jodhpur, Udaipur,
Ahmedabad, Secunderabad, Agra, Lucknow, Mumbai, Chennai and Calcutta.
- Road :
Jaipur is well connected by road to various parts of India. Delhi-Jaipur
national highway is one of the finest roads in India. Rajasthan
roadways runs excellent regular service of AC and Deluxe Coaches
from Delhi

| LOCAL TRANSPORT : |
| In the city you can travel by un-metered auto-rickshaws, buses,
cycle-rickshaws or you can also use car cabs and car-taxi. The Rajasthan
Tourism Development Corporation operates regular bus service for local
city tour. |
| SHOPPING : |
| Jaipur is shoppers paradise, if you are good at bargain things,
you can really get some good stuff. The local Bazaars are very colorful
and world famous like Johari Bazaar, Mirza Ismail Road (MI Road),
Bapu Bazaar etc. You can shop from handicrafts, jewelry, carpets,
textile, home furnishing and lot more. But, you have to be very careful
in shopping and bargain hard. |
